For product family,product platform not only provides innovation resources but also makes some constraint.Because of the development of technologies and the constant change of user requirements,an invariable product platform will become a hindrance to new product development.So it needs to be adjusted in time or even redesigned.According to the evolution principle of modules of product platform,the pattern of platform evolution includes the addition,removal,replacement of platform modules.The product platform evolution design needs to determine which modules need to change and how to change.It is consistent with the problems applying function trimming to product improvement design in TRIZ.Therefore,the paper proposes to apply function trimming method to product platform evolution design to solve the key problems.The main research contents are as follows:(1)Construction of function model of product platform.Build a function model of product family based on derivative products.Then,the function model of product platform is extracted from the common parts among product family.The function model of product platform is formed,when taking the component module of the product platform as the system element and using the personality modules as supersystem.(2)Trimming object determination and trimming principles extraction for product platform evolution.Considering the different trimming purpose for the platform and single products,the trimming object should be a module that can not meet the common requirements of the product family to some extent.So this paper presents an evaluation method based on Value-generality,which is used as the evaluation index for the selection and evaluation of trimmed objects for product platform evolution,and discuss the calculation methods of value and generality.After trimming the product platform,the useful function can be redistributed.The scope of choice become wider,and the universality is considered,so it is more inclined to look for the usable module from the platform or the personality module.The trimming principles for solving problems with system resources are extracted along the direction of functional resource analysis,based on them and the existing trimming principles,the trimming principles for product platform evolution are summarized in combination with the existing trimming principles.(3)The development of product platform evolution design process model and software prototype based on function trimming.Applying the requirement analysis to determine the timing of the product platform evolution.Combining the evaluation method of trimming module and the platform evolution oriented trimming principles,a product platform evolution design process model based on function trimming is constructed,and the software prototype is developed.
