The founding of new China marks the arrival of a new era of urban planning and governance. As a basic spatial arrangement for planning the future development of cities, administrative divisions are closely related to various national constructions, especially the early stages of the country's establishment and economic and social development The transition period and the key stages of industrialization and urbanization often lead to the deep reshaping of administrative divisions. As an important policy means that affects urban development, administrative divisions have a very important impact on urban spatial expansion. As the research object of this article,Yangzhou is a city with a history of 2,500 years and is one of the first 24 historical and cultural cities announced by the State Council. At present, there are a lot of historical studies related to Yangzhou cities, but the research focus of these works mostly discusses the micro-levels such as architecture, gardens, historical landscape environment, etc.in the heyday of ancient Yangzhou development from the perspectives of sociology, economics, and urban culture. In the history of the city, most of the results are focused on professional case studies in different directions, and there is a lack of relevant research on the development of the overall spatial structure of the city that is lagging behind from a macro perspective. Therefore, this article intends to explore the various connections between it and the expansion of urban space from the perspective of administrative divisions, and explore the laws of urban spatial expansion. This article is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction. This part mainly discusses the research background, research purpose and core problems to be solved, the theoretical and practical significance of the research, the current research status in the areas related to administrative divisions and the history of the planning of New China, the methods used in the research, and the innovations therein..Discussion This article takes the administrative division as the context, and the Yangzhou urban space after the founding of New China as the main object, and interprets the correlation and interaction between the characteristics of the urban spatial layout and the administrative division in each period. The second part is the evolution history of the administrative division system at the prefecture and county level related to the object of this study after the establishment of New China. In this part, the research on the development of the administrative division system at the prefecture and county levels is done in the time axis order. The relevant backgrounds of the formation of different systems and the economic and social development are discussed. At the same time,it is essential to study and discuss the impact of different administrative division systems and urban development in different periods. The third part is related to the evolution of administrative divisions in Yangzhou from the beginning of democratic government. The relevant researches are carried out in the order of time axis from the prefecture, county and district levels. With the help of the Arcgis platform, the method of deriving each other from the front, middle, and rear time points was used to make up the historical records of the incomplete records of the administrative divisions of Yangzhou, restore the arrangements of administrative divisions of Yangzhou in different representative periods, and draw Administrative divisions drawing with modern geographic coordinate information. The fourth part discusses the interrelationship between the urban spatial pattern and the administrative divisions of Yangzhou in different historical periods after the founding of New China. With the help of Arcgis' spatial analysis module, the interaction between administrative divisions and spatial expansion of urban land is studied, and the relationships between administrative divisions and urban infrastructure, education and medical care, and residential and commercial services are discussed separately. The fifth part is the conclusion and outlook.Summarized the development laws of Yangzhou urban space and administrative divisions after the founding of New China, summarized the development and interaction laws of each other, and made reflections on the deficiencies in the research, with a view to improving them in future related research.
