This paper discusses how to combine the traditional building with the modern building culture,to show the beauty of the Chinese cultural mood displayed by the traditional building,and to integrate the modern building culture.In modern society,the social attributes of Buddhist temples are more diversified.No matter from the architectural layout,architectural style,or functional zoning,how to better meet the aesthetic needs of the public is a subject worthy of consideration.In recent years,there are not a few researches on the restoration of Buddhist temples,but most of them are in Taiwan and Japan.In Xi'an area,the restoration of Buddhist temple building is mainly archaize,formalism,single functional division,no difference between architectural space and general ancient buildings,and does not show the Zen realm of Buddhist buildings through buildings.From the perspective of Steven Holl's architectural phenomenology,this paper studies the restoration of Buddhist temple buildings in Xi'an,using literature research,field research and descriptive research methods.First of all,this paper expounds Steven Holl's theory of architectural phenomenology,abstracts the two theoretical cores of Holl's thought,"anchoring" and "phenomenal area",and points out that the theory can guide the construction of Buddhist.Analyzes the practical application of architectural phenomenology in hall architecture,and takes architectural phenomenology as a starting point to interpret the cases of modern excellent Buddhist temples,proving the feasibility of the combination of modern Buddhist temple architecture and architectural phenomenology..Next,with the idea of "anchoring" as the starting point,this paper makes an investigation and elaboration on the current situation of the history,culture and environment of the restoration of Buddhist temple.Discussion on the integration of architecture,environment,history and culture.With the idea of "phenomenon area" as the starting point,it expounds the place experience elements of the Buddhist temple building.This paper discusses the spiritual experience of Buddhist temple architecture under the influence of these elements,and how to show the beauty of artistic conception of Chinese traditional culture.Finally,based on Steven Holl's thoughts of "anchoring" and "phenomenon area",puts forward the design strategy suitable for the development of restoration of temple buildings in Xi'an,trying to explore the road suitable for the development of restoration of temple buildings in Xi'an.Through the study of the restoration of Buddhist temple buildings in Xi'an since the 21 st century,this paper analyzes and comments on them,learn from excellent modern Buddhist temple building cases,and puts forward the viewpoint of design and development from the theoretical level,hoping to provide some new ideas and methods for the modern interpretation of traditional buildings in Xi'an with the creation of new Buddhist temple buildings in Xi'an as the carrier,inherit the tradition and keep pace with the times.
