In the era of numerous building schools, China’s construction market is gradually opening up. When more and more architects come to China to design architecture, native architects are thinking of building China’s domestic problems. In this case, systematic analysis of the foreign architect’s ideas, works is helpful to us to make think rationally and it will guide the future of China’s architectural design. In the dissertation, the famous American architect named Steven Holl is selected for the study. The dissertation reviewed recent ideas and works, and clear context of the recent development of his thinking. By summarizing the work process, recent ideas and works and urbanism of Holl’s, the dissertation discusses recent formation of the Holl’s recent ideas, the new changes and recent works. It can be found that phenomenology of thinking on the issue in the city, architecture and urban fusion is put more attention by Holl. In the scale of city, he is also exploring the new idea of architectural phenomenon, and is not so skillful as using phenomenological way in the architectural design. But he can still provide us with new thinking perspectives and a wide range of revelation. And then by the analysis of spatial form and construction’s interface, and the analysis of overall design method of Holl’s , the dissertation collated and summarized Holl’s architectural design and urban design work .To the actual state of China, the research on architects should not only stay in the level of form of work, but also in the levels of architect’s ideas and theories, as well as the care of corresponding theory and practice, so as to seize the from complete logic of design.
