Diversity Of Medicinal Plant Resources In Guanyang County,Guangxi

Medicinal plants has a long history of expedition and the resources are also abundant in our country.However,thirty years has passed since the last survey of Chinese medicinal plants.The natural environment and reserves of many medicinal plants have also undergone great changes over these years.Therefore,State Council decided to conduct the fourth census of Chinese medicine resources.So,we undertook the investigation of Chinese medicine plants in Guanyang County,Guangxi Province,and we desire to investigation and research to provide reference for their sustainable development.According to the state-set survey methods,the first thing is to confirming the original directory of medicinal plants by tidying the references.The second thing is to ensure the main distributive area of the plant resources by on-the-spot survey and interview.The third thing is to ascertaining the distribution and reserves of the key medicinal plants by line transect and quadrat sampling.We collected for herbarium specimens,photograph the plants and log the GPS for them in the process of field investigation.After the herbarium specimens sort and identify,we get an existing medicinal plant directory of Guanyang County,and then analyze its constitution of medicinal plant resources,medicinal parts and functions.Meanwhile,we have made an assessment of the rare and endangered medicinal plants in the county.According to its distribution,reserves,habits,characteristics,the difficulty of cultivation and the current market requirement,we propose a comprehensive protective strategy,providing a way for sustainable development and utilization.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1)The latest statistics showed that there were 1335 species(including infraspecific taxa)of vascular medicinal plant from Guanyang County,belonging to 202 families and distributed in 745 genera.It includes 88 species of medicinal ferns in 55 genera of 33 families,18 medicinal gymnosperm species in 16 genera of 8 families and 1229 medicinal angiosperm species in 676 genera of 161 families.The survey adds new records of 627 species of Chinese medical plant atop of the 708 species recorded by the national 3rd CM plant resources survey,which proves the expansion of the new survey?2)Dominant families(over 20 species)are mainly Asteraceae,Papilionaceae,Rosaceae,Lamiaceae,Rubiaceae et,which containing 475 species in 14 families.Dominant generas(over 10 species)are Polygonum,Viburnum,Ficus,Clematis,Rubus,which containing 58 species.3)The medicinal plants are predominantly in herbaceous,totaling 685 species.They are also found in 322 species of shrubs,183 species of liana and 145 species of arbor medicinal plants which constitutes the least of all.4)The wild plants are most frequently used,totaling 1181 species.There are 154 species of cultivated medicinal plants,in which most of them are for edible and/or ornamental use.5)Herba,root and rhizome are the main medicinal parts.The statistical results showed that the use frequency of herba is 518,and that of root and rhizomes is 460.6)The main medicinal functions are clearing heat,expelling wind-damp and promoting circulation and removing stasis.There are 549 species of heat medications,421 species of dehumidification medications,and 312 species of drugs for invigorating blood circulation and eliminating stasis.Others are water-disinhibiting and damp-percolating medications,antitussive and antiasthmatic drugs and hemostatics.7)The toxic medicinal plants are recorded to 140 species.The toxic medicinal plants mainly have strong biological activity,small safety range,a great trend to induce toxicosis,as a result it needs a cautious use.8)There have been 112 species of medicinal plants recorded into the key investigation of the fourth national general survey,belonging to 120 genera in 72 families.9)The survey recorded 166 species local medical plants of 142 genera in 88 family via the visit to the minority Yao in Guanyang County.10)There have been 34 species of recorded rare and endangered medicinal plants.Among them,2 species are the national first-ranking protection category,9 species are the second,and 23 species are municipality level of protection category.
