Chicken coccidiosis is a protozoal parasitic disease in chicken which mainly causes weight loss and intestinal bleeding. It causes serious harm to chicken industry.Among them,Eimeria tenella is the most virulent. At present, the using chemical drugs and vaccines is the main means to control coccidiosis, but due to drug resistance, drug residues, strain variation and inadequate immunological protection, coccidiosis is still widespread outbreak.Chinese medicine has a long history in the treatment of coccidiosis in China,so trying to use Chinese medicine to control coccidiosis can undoubtedly become a new way.According to the principle of syndrome differentiation and treatment of Chinese veterinary medicine, three Chinese herbal compound prescriptions and twelve Chinese herbal medicines were selected for the experiment to evaluate the effect of different Chinese herbal medicines on restraining sporulation coccidial oocysts in vitro and the effects on body weight gain, physiological and biochemical indexes and histopathological changes in vivo.1 Traditional Chinese medicine prescription in vitro anti-chicken tender aimelia coccidioides test.Three prescriptions of compound Chinese medicine and 12 single Chinese medicines were used to act on the coccidium oocyst in vitro at concentrations of 0.5%,1%and 2%,respectively.Distilled water and 2.5%potassium dichromate were used as controls. The results showed that on 3d and 6d,except for the 2%pine needle(liquor immersion)group, the rate of coccidioides oocystis in all the traditional Chinese medicine groups was significantly lower than that in the control groups. The oocyst sporulation rates were the lowest in the 2%artemisia annua(water decoction)group(0.89%and 1.61%,respectively).At the same concentration, the sporulation rate of coccidioides decreased with the prolongation of drug action time. The inhibitory effect of drug on coccidioides sporulation rate is not positive correlation with drug concentration within the same acting time.2 Screening test for traditional Chinese medicine prescription against chicken Eimeria tenella.A total of 510 healthy chickens aged 15 days were divided into 3 groups of compound Chinese medicine,12 groups of single Chinese medicine,30 chickens in each group, and the compound group was given 2g/kg/d dosage, while the single Chinese medicine was given 1.5g/feather/d dosage.Oral administration of 1×105 oocysts was started for 7 days.During the experiment, the clinical symptoms, body weight gain, oocyst exclusion and cecum lesions of chickens in each group were observed, and the anti-coccidiosis index(ACI)was used as the main reference index for judging the anti-coccidiosis effect of drugs. The results showed that among the treatment groups, the first compound group,Artemisia absinthium(liquor immersion)group and Artemisia argyi(water decoction)group had the best anti-coccidiasis effect, with the ACI of 130.7,129.56 and 127.84,respectively,which was significantly higher than that of the non-treatment group.3 Dose screening test for effective Chinese medicine prescription against chicken Eimeria tenella.According to the results of experiment 2,three Chinese herbal prescriptions with the best anti-coccidiosis effect were selected for further experiments.A total of 360 healthy 15-day-old chicks were divided into 12 groups with 30 chicks in each group.1to 3 groups were orally administered 2 g kg-1,1.5g kg-1,1 g kg-1 of compound per day,at respectively,4-9 groups were given of high, medium and low dose of Artemisia absinthium(alcohol extraction)and Artemisiae argyi(water decoction)1.Sgkg-1,1gkg-1,0.5gkg-1 per day,10 group was given Diclazuril as usual treatment,11 group was as infection but without treatment.12 group was be no infection. After oral administration of 1×105 oocysts for per chicken except 12 group, drugs were given for 7 days successively.During the experiment, the clinical symptoms, body weight gain, oocyst exclusion, cecal lesions, physiological and biochemical indexes, immune organ index, liver and kidney cecum histopathological changes of chickens in each group were observed, and the anti-coccidiosis index(ACI)was used as the main reference index for judging the anti-coccidiosis effection of drugs. The results showed that the medium dose group of Artemisia absinthium(alcohol extraction)and the high dose group of compound medicine had the best anti-coccidiosis effect, with the ACI of 164.05 and 160.99 respectively, and the anti-coccidiosis effect was good, and the efficacy of the other groups was medium. The clinical symptoms and cecum lesions of infected chickens were alleviated in each medication group, reducing the excretion of blood stool and oocysts, promote weight gain and growth of immune organs, maintain the normal physiological and biochemical indexes, promoting the secretion of immunoglobulin, and alleviating the pathological damagein liver, kidney and cecum of infected chicken.
