Low-carbon agricultural production has enormous potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The existing research mainly analyzes the development level of low-carbon agriculture from the macro level. How to evaluate farmers’ production behavior and improve their low carbonization level, which become the key to promoting the development of low-carbon agriculture;the hypothesis of “homogeneity” implicit in traditional economics has not applied to existing research. With the development of modern market economy and the degree of agricultural socialization, the heterogeneity of farmers in the division of labor and resource endowment has become increasingly prominent.Studies have shown that the heterogeneity of farmers has a significant impact on their low carbon production behavior. Therefore, based on the study of the connotation and related theories of the farmers’ heterogeneity and low-carbon production behavior, this paper takes the heterogeneity of household division and the heterogeneity of livelihood capital as the main manifestations of farmers’ heterogeneity, and analyzes the impact mechanism on the low carbon production behavior of farmers. At the same time,I obtained data through field surveys. The current situation and problems of the low-carbon production behavior of sample farmers are analyzed. Then, the combination of analytic hierarchy process and agricultural carbon effect measurement is used to construct a comprehensive evaluation index system for low carbon production behavior of farmers, and the degree of low carbonization of farmers’ production behavior is determined. Finally,an ordered multi-class logistic regression model is used to analyze the impact of farmer heterogeneity on its low carbon production behavior, and the following conclusions are drawn:(1)In terms of the carbon effect of farmer agricultural production, agricultural investment and agricultural energy input are the main source of carbon emissions;due to the different planting structures, the level of carbon sinks of farmers’ crops varies. The average carbon sink per household and per acre of farmers using single planting structure are lower than those of diversified farmers.(2)The low carbonization degree of agricultural production behavior of farmers is generally low.Although the degree of low carbonization is higher at the carbon emission level, there are certain shortcomings in ecological effects and economic benefits, and low carbonization which is not fully developed is widespread.Among the various subsystems, the economic benefits of herbaceous cash crops are the largest, and the ecological effects of woody cash crops are the largest. Therefore, farmers can appropriately adjust the planting structure to improve the low carbonization level of production behavior.(3)The heterogeneity of household division has an important impact on farmers’ low carbon production behavior. When the family production decision-makers are mostly young and middle-aged,the level of labor quality is higher, which is more conducive to the adoption of low-carbon production behavior. The certain stage characteristics of non-agricultural income as a percentage of total income indicate that excessive non-agricultural income will have a certain inhibitory effect on the adoption of low-carbon production behavior of farmers. The continuous increase of the gap between non-agricultural income and agricultural income will hinder farmers’ agricultural production enthusiasm and the development of low-carbon agriculture.(4)Natural capital, financial capital and environmental capital in the heterogeneity of livelihood capital have a greater impact, which indicates that in the existing rural agricultural production development, the farmers’ own resource endowment conditions, capital investment and policy environmental barrier are the main factors restricting their low carbon production behavior and low carbon agriculture development. In addition, the village and field traffic conditions, technical training and cooperatives have also had a significant impact on farmers’ low-carbon production behavior.
