With the rapid development of our country's economy,China is in the accelerated stage of urbanization development. The reduction in the amount of arable land has once again aroused great attention to the issue of food security.General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed in the 19 th National Congress that the Chinese people's jobs should be firmly in their own hands. The intensification of arable land is an inevitable choice for human land use under the pressure of socio-economic development, land area constraints, population growth, and technological progress. Therefore, how to coordinate the relationship between urbanization and intensive land use? It has also become the focus of scholars 'next research.Taking Jilin province as an example, based on the relevant data from 2001 to 2016,using the principles of land use planning, the basic principles of land intensive use,and the theory of sustainable development, this paper establishes a vector autoregressive model, first of all for a single root test. After the cointegration test,Granger test was used to determine the direction of action between the two,and the relationship between urbanization and intensive use of cultivated land was analyzed by impulse response function and tested by variance decomposition. The results show that population urbanization, the proportion of secondary and tertiary industries, and land urbanization have all shown a negative response to the input of chemical fertilizers, and have a large impact. In addition, the contribution rate of population urbanization to fertilizer input has stabilized at about 92 % on average. The response of the three indicators of urbanization to the multiple species index is basically positive, but the overall range is relatively small, with the maximum positive impact of the multiple species index on population urbanization reaching 0.0031.The contribution of population urbanization to the multiple species index is the largest among the three indicators, with a value of 22 %.But the urbanization of land and population has positive response to the land productivity, but the land productivity has negative impact on the proportion of secondary and tertiary industries.
