In current study,five new CMS lines(118A,128 A,134A,141 A and 914A)and ten representative restorer lines(SR498,Qianhui 785,CR727,QR1385 and G981,R457,Mianhui 725,Minghui 86,Shuhui 527 and Huazhan)of southern rice were used as parents and 50 combinations were made by the method of incomplete diallele cross(NC(47))design.The combining ability and heritability of Main Agronomic and quality characters of CMS lines were analyzed and their utilization value was evaluated,in order to provide reference for the selection of hybrid combinations of five male sterile lines.The main results are as follows:1.The analysis results of heritability and combining ability of major agronomic characters showed that: 1)The variance of general combining ability and special combining ability of most agronomic characters were very significant and the variance of the general combining ability was larger than the variance of the special combining ability,which indicated that the heredity of the eight characters was dominated by the additive effect.Among which the heredity of the four characters such as plant height,effective ear number,seed setting rate and yield per plant were mainly controlled by the additive effect of the gene,while the heredity of the ear length was mainly controlled by the additive effect of the gene The inheritance of four characters,i.e.the number of grains per ear,the total number of grains per ear and 1000 grain weight is controlled by both the gene additive effect and the gene non additive effect.2)The number of effective panicles,filled spikelets per panicle,Pikelets per panicle,seed setting rate and yield per plant were significantly affected by the sterile lines while plant height,ear length and 1000 grain weight were greatly affected by restorer lines.3)The narrow heritability of the major agronomic characters were listed out from big to small as follows: plant height,1000 grain weight,pikelets per panicle,plant panicle length,yield per plant,filled spikelets per panicle,seed setting rate and effective panicles.2.The analysis results of heritability and combining ability of major quality traits showed that: 1)The variances of general combining ability and special combining ability of most quality traits are significant or extremely significant.The inheritance of brown rice rate,milled rice rate,head rice rate,transparency,chalkiness,length width ratio,grain length and elongation are mainly controlled by gene additive effect.While the inheritance of chalkiness grain rate,grain width,gel consistency and alkali dissipation value were mainly controlled by gene additive effect and gene non additive effect The inheritance of water absorption is mainly controlled by the non additive effect of genes.In addition to water absorption,the other characters were mainly inherited by gene additive effect.2)Ten characters such as brown rice rate,head rice rate,chalky rice rate,chalkiness degree,length width ratio,grain length,grain width,gel consistency,alkali digestion value and extensibility were greatly affected by restorer lines while milled rice rate and transparency were greatly affected by sterile lines.3)The narrow sense heritability of the main quality traits from large to small is;grain width,alkali elimination value,grain length,length width ratio,chalky grain rate,chalkiness,milled rice rate,brown rice rate,head rice rate,gel consistency,transparency,extensibility,water absorption and expansibility.3.Evaluate the utilization value of parents:The comprehensive analysis of general combining ability and special combining ability of eight agronomic characters shows that 118 A,914A and 134 A of the five newly selected sterile lines were of important utilization value for the selection of new hybrid combinations.The comprehensive analysis of general combining ability and special combining ability of fourteen agronomic characters showed that 118 A,914A and 128 A had better combining ability of most quality characters,and had certain utilization value.
