Objective: To analyze the influencing factors of functional constipation and depression,to explore the relationship between functional constipation and geriatric depression. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study of older community populations older than 60 years old.A total of 1,514 subjects were included in the study, and 346 were excluded from the inclusion criteria and missing data. The elderly population was divided into functional constipation and depression, and the questionnaires were used to collect basic information and past medical history of the subjects. The fasting blood was collected and the AU-400 automatic biochemical analyzer was used to test the serum triglyceride(TG)and homocysteine. Results:In the baseline data, the proportion of depressive symptoms was 26.4%,and the functional constipation in the depressive symptom group was significantly higher than that in the non-depressive group(p<0.01).After adjusting for confounding factors, the risk of functional constipation and depressive symptoms was significant.Correlation(OR=1.57,OR=4.09,OR=3.02).Conclusion: Functional constipation is highly correlated with the risk of depression in the elderly.Focusing on functional constipation may be helpful to the physical and mental health of the elderly.
