A Report On The Translation Of Chapter One-Chapter Five Of The Novel The Snow Child

The MTI graduation report discusses an English-Chinese translation practice of the English novel The Snow Child(2012)by Eowyn LeMay Ivey.The author has translated the chapter one to chapter five of The Snow Child into Chinese and analyzed the translation text under the principles of Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Elegance.By classifying,analyzing and summarizing the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation,the author made the conclusion that the translation should be an unity with the characteristics of faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance.Firstly,this report introduces the background and purpose of this report and give the most obvious reason why chose this novel as the translation material.Then this report gives an overall description about the task and present a brief introduction to the novel,including its language features and style and its author,and the translation principles.The task process is the third part,including the choosing of translation material,the preparation before the translation,such as reading the text,consulting parallel texts,and preparation of translation tools,and the process of translation.And on this basis the author puts forward the feasible principles and methods to deal with the problems encountered in the translation,including the processing of long and difficult sentences and colloquial style and idioms.Through the analysis on examples of the translated version,the thesis discovered that the translation ought to represent the writing style,the aesthetics and literary context in the source text and the language of the translation should be fluent and logic for readers to enjoy.A summary is made in the last chapter,concerning the author's experience and gains,problems and the deficiencies in the practice.
