The Zhengzhou-Luoyang region is located in the hinterland of the Central Plains.During the Xia,Shang and Zhou Dynasties the capitals lied there. It's also the birthplace of Chinese modern archaeology.Recently the research into the man-land relationship of the prehistoric settlement in Zhengzhou-Luoyang region has become a hotspot. This paper uses the data analysis technique to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics from the aspect of landform, soil, aspect, slope, elevation and other environment driving factors. On that basis,a fussy comprehensive evaluation system of the prehistoric human settlement environment index is constructed. At last, this paper discusses the relationship between river and sites. The results show:(1)Less and less prehistoric human select the places which is classified as hill.More and more people choose places with the characteristics like Liang Yuan Loess, cinnamon soil,south-east aspect and 900-1200 meters high.During the four cultures, people always select places characterized of Tableland Loess, mixed soil, gentle slope, and 0-300 meters high.(2)There are five levels for the settlement livability in the Late Yangshao Period. The least livability is the settlement in the western mountain. The least but one distributes widely from around to central. The medium livability is settlement in the northwestern loess land. The preferable livability is settlement in the central low hill, alluvial and flood plain. The most favorable places to live in are the eastern tableland, terrace and plain. Each grade differs from one another in some ways. The fussy comprehensive evaluation model has a high accuracy in digging settlement with the test of settlement data in Yangshao and Longshan period.(3)On the whole, the prehistoric human depend less and less on the river. From the side of the amount of sites,at first the density of sites increased with the distance from river and then decreased. In the view of time, the distance from sites to river is opposite with the density mentioned above, which is decreasing at first and increasing at last. From the spatial perspective, considerating the river factor alone, the livable level for the sites in Lushi County changes along the northwest-southeast direction which is perpendicular to the Luo River. While the grade which is acquired using the 1:400 million scale river data changes radially in space. There is no obvious variation for 1:25 million scale analysis.
