Japanese health care system and policy is a social scientific text, which introduces the Japanese health care system in every period of history systematically.By comparing with Europe,America, etc.,the text reveals the disadvantages of the current health care system in Japan, and put forward suggestions and prospect for the revolution of Japanese health care system in the future. The Introduction and the first Chapter of the text were translated by the author. This report is the summary and rethink for the translation practice this time, and hope the report can be the reference to the future social scientific text translation practice for author.Overall,as a social scientific text,Japanese health care system and policy has two typical characters:firstly, substantial content, professional, methodical and logical;on the other hand,it is also a popular science text,so language style is smoothly and easy to be understood. Therefore, translation of the text should balance both precisely and readability.Among various translation theories,Eugene Nida's "Functional equivalence",which contains "Formal equivalence" and "Dynamic equivalence" such two principals can help the author balance both precisely and readability during translation works. Therefore,Nida's theory was selected as guidance in this translation practice. For the translation strategy, this report referred to some related famous translators'theories and viewpoints, analyzed the translation process from two points,as terms translation and sentences translation. In the aspect of terms translation, the translatability of terms was discussed firstly, and clarify the difficulties and limitation of terms translation in social scientific text.Based on that and the particularity of Japanese-Chinese translation, the terms were classified into three kinds, and have three kinds of translation methods correspondingly.By combining with the translation of the Introduction and the first Chapter of Japanese health care system and policy, the three terms translation methods were demonstrated. Then, the translation strategy of the related trams translation methods was discussed deeply. In the part of sentences translation, the author focused on analyzing the long sentences and figurative sentences translation. From the aspect of language, due to the differences language structure between Chinese and Japanese,it is difficult to get the absolutely "Formal equivalence".Therefore,in order to get the "Dynamic equivalence"and make the translation easy to be understood, when translated long sentences, the author used two methods:adjusted word order and separated sentenced to break through the gap between Japanese and Chinese sentence structure. From the aspect of culture, due to the culture differences between the two centuries,it is difficult for the Chinese readers to get denotation meaning from connotation meaning of Japanese figurative sentences. So,in order to explain the denotation meaning of figurative sentences without losing elements of Japanese culture, the author used addition translation method to overcome the difficulty. In this thesis,Nida's "Functional equivalence" theory was used to provide a general guidance for the translation of Japanese health care system and policy. For some specific problems, the author used John Catford's and Xu Jun's theories and viewpoints to analyze and demonstrate, and try hard to make the translation professional, rigorous and easy to be understood.By combining theory analyze with translation practice, the author believed she can improve her translation ability and make better translations.
