The source text originated from the Triumph and Tragedy which was written by Winston Churchill. The author chose the first chapter(D-Day)and the second chapter(Normandy to Paris)as the material for the practice report. In this part,it mainly argues there were several significant historic events in14 months after the Allied force landed the Normandy coast on June 6,1944.This report is an English-Chinese translation practice report. This report describes the significance of translation task, text type, translation process and the case analysis combined the translation theory and translation methods. The translator put the Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory as the guiding theory and applied the translation methods like literal translation, free translation, amplification, combination and division etc. From the perspective of the text typology, the source text belongs to the form of informative text. Therefore, the main focus prefers content rather than form. While pursuing the equivalence of information content, the translator also achieves formal equivalence as much as possible. In this translation task, the key and difficult points involved are reflected in three aspects: lexicon, syntax and text.Taking into account the difficulties in different levels, the translator uses different translation methods to solve them. The translator uses literal translation, free translation and Chinese four-character translation methods to choose accurate expressions;Translation methods like combination and division solve the expression of sentence;Readjustment of sentence order and the application of rhetorical devices are used to achieve the logic of the sentences.Literal translation reflects real life. Therefore, for literary translation, besides the accurate content the translator should also consider the language expression more vivid.Through this translation practice, the translator benefited a lot and laid the foundation for future research and practiced in English Chinese translation.
