The emergence of modern legal terminologies is closely related to the legaltranslation practice. Many of them aredirectly translated fromtheir foreign legal counterpartsin the dictionaries and gradually became localized. The legal dictionaries reflected the historical process in the transformative practice which recorded the evolution of terminologies which became reference to the standardization process. This dissertation chooses three representative dictionaries including ????(Li Zuyin, proofread by Li Kun),??????(Shimizu,Toru, translatedby Zhang Chuntao Guo Kaiwen, proofreadby Wang Pei)and ?????(Zheng Jingyi,Peng Shi)as the focus. It is found that the legal terminologies in the three books have a strong inheritance, which sketched out the historical evolution of the construction of modern Chinese legal discourse.Secondly, based on predecessors the three books gradually improved the terminology system, constituting a standard of classification by the sector law.Thirdly, the law cited and interpreted in legal terms changed from foreign laws to Chinese, indicating that the legal translation evidently influenced legalconstruction and discourse construction.Fourthly, these three dictionaries provided a historical basis for the standardization of contemporary legal translation. |
