With the rising of China's international status,China,as a country with a large scale of manufacturing, places more emphasis on quality of products because more and more products have been exported. Therefore, the translator chooses the book Quality-I is Safety-II--The Integration of Two Managements Systems as source text for practical translation. The main content of this book is about quality and safety management systems, which helps to improve quality of products and reduce the accidents caused by poor quality. The book selected belongs to expository writing which has the function to deliver information, therefore, the translator mainly uses literal translation.During translation process, the translator encounters several problems on the levels of lexis, syntax and discourse. To address the problems of word translation, such as the title of the book, same word with different meanings, synonym, the translator identifies the meaning of words by referring to dictionary and books about quality, for example,ISO 9000:2000 The Knowledge of QMS.To solve that of sentence translation, including attributive clause, passive sentences and metaphor concerning sentences, the translator reconstructs sentences, turns passive voice into active voice, transfers the metaphor of English to Chinese which can express the meaning of metaphor properly. To tackle that of discourse translation, demonstrative pronouns are expressed by the nouns and clipped parts of English are added in the translated text to make it more cohesive. After the translation, the translator knows that not only proper translation methods should be adopted, but also translation aids need to be used to improve translation efficiency.
