As domestic wind power industry booms,China's wind turbine manufacturers as well as companies, encouraged by both governments' close interaction, have “gone abroad” into South Africa's wind power market. On this very note, the source text in this translation practice is “Wind Energy Integration into the South African Grid: Prospects and Challenges”,the Chapter Four of Wind Energy: Developments,Potential and Challenges. The target text can be served as a reference for related companies to better understand policies, developments and trends of wind power integration in South Africa, contributing to their success in overseas wind power market.Meanwhile, both the target text and the translation report are expected to push forward the translations on China's wind power industry. This translation practice report focuses on the difficulties in the process of the initial translation and the initial translation, and classifies these difficulties from the three levels of vocabulary, syntax and discourse, and then makes a detailed analysis and summary based on specific translation examples. For professional knowledge related to wind turbines, wind power integration technologies as well as South Africa's wind power policies in the source text,a large number of parallel texts and literature are reviewed to produce a faithful target text with a professional and rigorous style;for words that can't be directly translated or clumsy sentences in the original version, conversion and extension of the word meaning according to the context are carried out;for long sentences with much information and complicated structure, separation based on the meaning and reorganization according to the logical relationship are taken so as to improve the target text.In addition, due to differences in English and Chinese cohesive devices, the replaced and omitted parts in source text are restored and supplemented. This translation practice has promoted the translator's understanding of the wind power industry, improved the translator's ability to translate scientific and technical texts as well as to retrieve information and apply computer-assisted translation tools.
