Translation Report On Technlogical Manual Based On Chapter 13 Of Offshore Wind Power Technologies

The 13th chapter of Offshore Wind Power Technologies translated in this report as source text studies problems and obstacles that a translator might have encountered when he or she works on technical translation.The purpose of this paper is to find out the characteristics of technical translation and summarize the results and experiences that can be drawn and learned by other people and provide some reference materials for development of technical translation.The translation material in this report is a technical text in which chapter 13 introduces the content of offshore wind power factories,onshore facilities,categories of cables and cable installations.Difficulties that I have encountered with during my translation process include words,terms and jargons,long and compound sentences,complicated structure of grammar and basic technological theory of various fields.The material is analyzed and translated in this report where the theory of dynamic equivalence proposed by Eugene Nida is the guidance,the three key elements are the cores and rules of dynamic equivalence are strictly followed,so as to solve difficulties often seen in the technical text and to find out the character of technical translation.The impact on technical translation of theory of dynamic equivalence is demonstrated by generalizing and analyzing the source text and target text.The characteristics of technical translation require translator to master the jargons,specific and professional ideas and theories,and pay attention on translation techniques such as the skill of position of comment and fact,position of the verb and passive voice sentences.The report is expected to find out the characteristics of technical translation on condition that jargons,sentences and grammars in translation material are analyzed and translation techniques are fully used.Applications to the translation theory and examples of translation skills are analyzed and summarized before being classified.It can be concluded from the report that the technical material is featured with technical words,jargons,long and complex sentences.Technical translation must be translated under the guidance of a specific translation theory and the importance to master professional knowledge must be kept in mind.At the same time,a fluent and accurate translation text can be achieved when characteristics of target language have been taken into consideration during the translation process.
