This report originates from the author's internship in the Department of Public Information of the UN from June 28 to September 8,2017.During the internship,a large number of documents(mainly document on the social media)of the Department of Public Information, such as UN in Action, the UN home page, some important UN international days, and so on.The topics cover many international days(like the International Literacy Day),women's rights, nuclear issues, sustainable development goals,Palestinian issues, etc. This report gives a detailed description to the internship,in which translation process of DPI,text features, issues appearing during the internship and relative solutions are included.Besides, this report makes a comparison between the author's translation texts and proofreaders' version.Through such comparison, the author tries to understand the features of the United Nations documents and translation skills used in these documents, especially skills applied in long sentences.Since the translated documents are mostly about social media, the skills are also worth being explored. At the same time, the author hopes this internship report can provide more useful information for postgraduate students who want to enroll into the system.By reading this article, readers can get a general idea of the routine work of interns at the Department of Public Information of the United Nations. This thesis is based on the theoretical framework of comprehension, expression and adaptation which was derived from the book Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts on Chinese-English Translation by Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing. The two teachers think that translation should be based on comprehension and expression.Translation means understanding the original text, the author, and the background of the writing. In a way that the reader can understand and accept,in other words, the author expresses what the author expresses, wishes to express, and even doesn't express. The translator's understanding must be close to,achieve,or even exceed the level of the author. After adopting the above theoretical framework and combining it with cases study, the thesis also reflects on its own inadequacies, the outlook and requirements for the future.
