| Unlike real-time news,a documentary doesn’t need to deliver the information in a timely manner.However,it pursues the cultural and social value.The most important function of a documentary is "respecting and revealing the reality,the true human nature,and humanity."[1]Therefore,a documentary about food serves the same purpose."Food is as important as the god to the people" means people must have food and other necessary resources to survive.Over time,the understanding of the "food"had already made a transition from basic needs to luxury.People have the more selective attitude toward the food.They pursue the better and tastier food in today’s society.After the CCTV series,the special documentary about food " A Bite of China"was on the air,the food culture became popular again in China.The documentary introduced various local foods,food making process,and excellent chefs.People became more and more interested in local food.The enjoyment of having the local food also turned into the enjoyment of the lifestyle.The role of food is not only to help people to survive but also represent a lifestyle,the cultural significance and carry a certain moment in the history.My graduation work "Legend of Fujian Cuisine" is a documentary on the glorious journey of Fujian cuisine.The documentary focused on the masters of Fujian cuisine "Double Qiang" as the Mugen Qiang and his brother Ququ Qiang.The main story line was about how Qiang brothers regain the glory of Fujian cuisine by their successors and their interpretation of the legend of Fujian cuisine. |
