The English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation report was based on the recording material of the speech titled "The Chinese Education System" at the 2017 California Teachers Workshop.After long-term preparations,this Simulative E-C Simultaneous Interpreting report came into being.This report focuses on analyzing the difficulties in the simultaneous interpretation and putting forward the corresponding strategies on how to solve the problems.Through analyzing the project,the interpreter concentrated on improving the interpretation level.The 2017 Teachers Workshop was held during July 26-27 in Redwood City,California,which aimed at introducing modern China and enabling American middle and high school teachers to include modern China in their curriculum.Ms.Lenora's speech,with modern features,has a practical significance.On the one hand,it discussed issues in the education system and education reform in China.On the other hand,it describes China's educational advantages and what the United States can learn from Chinese education.Its abundant content and professionalism,coupled with her fast speed and extensive range of the speech,are so challenging and high-demanding that the speech serves as a rare practical opportunity for simultaneous interpretation.However,the author does not agree with some views raised in the speech.This practice report introduces the background and significance of choosing this speech in detail.Lenora's speech features the representation of cultural differences between China and the United States,the perspectiveness of educational development,and the traits of the style of speech so that it is appropriate to be chosen as the topic of this report.Moreover,the concept of English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting and task requirement are described.Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth,and knowledge starts with practice.Therefore,in this report,all significant parts in simultaneous interpretation are introduced covering pre-interpretation preparation,simulation process,and post-interpreting evaluation.In particular,the relevanttheories and technical methods for pre-interpretation preparation are highlighted including the theme and related professional knowledge,vocabulary and language styles of the speaker.These all lay a solid foundation for higher-quality interpretation.This report also analyzes and discusses the difficulties in the simultaneous interpretation such as technical terms,linguistic differences,and cultural differences.What's more,the author's problems in the simulative E-C simultaneous interpretation are studied carefully involving note-taking problems,misinterpretation and loss of some messages.Then,this report analyzes the causes of some of the deficiencies and proposed corresponding training methods to achieve a better interpretation.In addition,in order to improve the quality of simultaneous interpretation in the future,the author introduced some simultaneous interpretation skills,and systematically summarized this simultaneous interpretation.
