A Report On The Translation Of Chapter 14 In The Routledge Companion To Literature And Science

The source text is taken from the chapter 14 in The Routledge Companion to Literature and Science,which elaborates the influence of mathematics on the content and form of many literary works from the characteristics of mathematics and literature by giving specific examples relate to religion,literary,mathematics and so on.The academic text is characterized with many precise words,parenthesis,and complex long sentences.The translation report consists of four parts: task description,process description,case analysis and the conclusion.Among them,translation case analysis is the key part.It focuses on analyzing difficulties in the translation from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,and proposes solutions to the problems.Thanks to this translation practice,the author has learned that in order to convery the complete meaning and function of academic texts,it is necessary to possess not only high-level bilingual competence and a broad range of knowledge,but also the ability to use computer aided translation tools.
