Reproduction Of Style In Academic Text Translation

The translation of academic text is a bridge for academic communications between western countries and China.Machine translation,belonging to the field of computer sciences,is critically important to the development of both language localization and computer programming.However,there is little practice in translating academic papers from English to Chinese in the field of machine translation.In recent years,the statistical machine translation is a hot topic in the field of machine translation.With the purpose of transmitting new statistical machine translation technologies,the author selects an academic paper on statistical machine translation as the source text.This report is written based on the translating practice of the paper Large Aligned Treebanks for Syntax-based Machine Translation.The main body of the report is composed of three chapters,including task description(chapter two),process description(chapter three)and case analysis(chapter four).In the process of translation,tools like MemoQ are employed to ensure the accuracy of translation,and functional equivalence theory is used as the theoretical guidance.The author takes into consideration of the stylistic features of English and Chinese academic texts,and analyses the translation from three levels: lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level,At the lexical level,the author discusses the translation of technical terms involved in the original text,polysemes with special meanings in the field of computer science and nominalization at Lexical level;at the syntactic level,long sentences and passive constructions are discussed as typical syntactic structures of the text,and methods like restructuring and splitting are used to perform the translation;at the textual level,the author describes the translation of explicit conjunctive expressions and explicitation of logical relations implied in the source text.Understanding translation theory is essential for the practice of translation,and in the translation process,functional equivalence theory plays an important role as the guideline.When translating the text,the author also follows the principle of accuracy and readability to make the target text more acceptable by the readers.Through this translation report,the author expects to provide some useful suggestions for the translation of papers in the field of computer science,as well as transmit new technology of statistical machine translation.
