Study On Suzhou Street Construction In The Republic Of China

Suzhou is a typical case of Suzhou street construction,and the Dongxizhongshi streets is a specimen of Suzhou street construction.Although the shipping in Suzhou is convenient,the streets are crowded and narrow,unable to keep up with the pace of urban modernization.This paper focuses on a busy district of Suzhou since ancient times-the northwest corner of Chang Men area,with things in the city streets as a case,combing Suzhou street construction for thinking of modern city planning and construction for reference.This paper analyzes the preparation work of Suzhou municipal construction in the period of the republic of China.In the early years of the republic of China,the trend of the modernization of Suzhou was obvious,and the construction of city streets was gradually put on the agenda.The Suzhou municipal construction project is mainly supported and operated by civil and official forces.The power of the people mainly refers to the public commune and the Suzhou chamber of commerce,which have a far-reaching influence on the construction of Suzhou municipal government due to their own interests and people's interests.In 1927,the official of the republic of China of Suzhou municipal start-up business set up,has carried on the system planning of Suzhou municipal construction.Its six months' planning carried on business plan and implementation steps,planning to do a full comprehensive description on streets.Due to the combined forces of the two sides,there was a widening of the Dongxizhongshi streets in 1934 to 1935.In 1934,it was planned to expand the Dongxizhongshi streets.However,due to the drought,the chamber of commerce communicated with the government and postponed the implementation.In 1935,the Dongxizhongshi streets were rescheduled,but there were many problems,such as expensive charging,connecting water pipes and building cement roads.Finally,these problems were resolved with the efforts of the chamber of commerce and the government.The case reveals the chamber of commerce having interaction relations with the government,chamber of commerce assisted the government to suit their own interests,but also have the effect of the maintenance of their own benefits and trade name.The official listened to the opinions of the chamber of commerce,and to save money and maintains the perspective of the people's livelihood,readjust the things in the Dongxizhongshi streets 'widening engineering.The construction of Dongxizhongshi streets has contributed to the prosperity of Suzhou's financial,business and handicraft industries.
