Punctuation is an indispensable and important part of writing.In writing,punctuation is used to express pause,mood and the nature of words,so learners must pay attention to the use of punctuation.Moreover,whether Chinese as a second-language students know well the standard form,format and functional usage of Chinese punctuation marks is directly related to the improvement of their Chinese writing and expression ability.Although Chinese and Burmese punctuation marks are very abundant,there are more kinds of punctuation marks in Chinese than in Burmese.Moreover,the usage and form of punctuation marks in both languages are not only in common,but also in prominent differences.These differences are one of the reasons why Myanmar students often have various errors in the use of Chinese punctuation marks.And now not only teachers and students do not pay attention to the teaching of Chinese punctuation,but also rarely seen in the text books about punctuation,these reasons led to the students' lack of understanding of Chinese punctuation marks and their mistakes.The main content of this paper is to study the students' errors in using full stop,question mark,exclamation mark,comma,slight-pause mark,semicolon,colon,dash,bracket,ellipsis dots,book title and quotation marks of the essay and questionnaires of middle and high level students in Chinese department of Yangon University of Foreign Languages in Myanmar as an example.There are three types of errors: functional usage errors,writing form errors and writing format errors.Functional usage errors mainly include wrong substitution,adding,omission of punctuation and punctuation disorder.And I compared the errors in the essay and questionnaires.Then I find out the main reasons for the errors from four aspects: students' language cognition factor,students' own reason,teachers' teaching factor and text books factor.Finally,I put forward targeted suggestions on students' learning,teachers' teaching and text books' write.I hope this paper will help Myanmar students learn Chinese punctuation marks.
