A Report On C-E Translation Of Mechanical Product Instructions From The Perspective Of Nord's Model Of Translation-oriented Text Analysis

As foreign trade keeps growing vigorously worldwide,more and more mechanical products of China find their way into the international market.C-E translation of such product instructions also becomes more and more demanding.Obviously,such translation will be a complex language-transforming activity of many links.However,previous researches on such translation mainly focus on text analysis,seldom paying attention to other factors in the whole translation process,such as initiators of translation projects or their expectations towards translation.Therefore,these researches may be not comprehensive or translation-oriented enough.This report,based on the author's translation practice of three vacuum pump instructions,starts from Nord's model for translation-oriented text analysis and analyzes skopos of the target text and all factors concerning the source text including extratextual and intratextual ones.After a deep analysis of the whole translation process,the author explores translation strategies of lexis and sentences.From this report,the author finds out that as for C-E translation of mechanical product instructions,translators shall always take into consideration all elements in the translation process,make adaptions when necessary and strive to translate precisely,concisely,smoothly and idiomatically.This report includes five chapters:introduction,translation process description,theoretical framework,the application of Nord's model for translation-oriented text analysis and conclusion.It tries to analyze C-E translation of mechanical product instructions thoroughly and comprehensively,thus making contributions to such translation practice and providing references for later translators.
