This is a report on English to Chinese consecutive interpreting.The thesis mainly describes a consecutive interpreting task that the author deals with for a lecture of China and its historic engagement with the West.The author reviews the whole interpreting process which includes preparation,case study and conclusion.Guided by the sense-based theory,the author also analyzes the interpretation of culture characteristic words,parentheses,long and difficult sentences.According to the author's knowledge and the experience,she also proposes some methods to deal with the problems.Interpretive Theory emphasizes the sense equivalence.According to this theory,it is the ideas that are supposed to be translated rather than the words or the phrases.This report analyzes the author's interpreting process and methods under the guidance of Interpretive Theory.The key point is to analyze how to interpret it in target language with the different interpreting strategies after understanding the source language.This report is mainly divided into four parts.The first part focuses on the description of the interpreting task.The second part is a description of the process of this interpreting practice.The third part analyzes the interpreting strategies by the sense-based theory.The last part concludes that,through this report,implications are gained which might be valuable for the future interpreting practice.The interpreter hope that,through the practice,she will be more skilled in using interpreting strategies,and improve the level of her own interpretation.
