Theory Of Taoist Aesthetics In Modern Graphic Design

As a highly influential figure in the field of graphic design in the world,Shigeo Fukuda' s unique design concept of "Taoism" and his picturesque works play an important role in academic studies.His works have strongly reflected the thoughts of Taoism,which share the striking identity with Taoism in the aspects of the deployment of colors,the practice of creative ideas and the expression of illusions.Currently,there are many research literatures on Fukuda ' s works,but there are few studies focusing on the Taoist aesthetics reflected in his works.Based on this fact,this thesis conducts a detailed and in-depth research on Fukuda' s works,hoping to provide more examples for the design ideas and design philosophy which are supported by the Taoist aesthetics,especially some inspirations for the designers in modern graphic design field theoretically.The philosophical thinking of Taoism admires the beauty of "nature ","simplicity " and "femininity ".This thesis starts from the Chinese traditional Taoist aesthetics and then elaborates the effects of Taoism on Fukuda from the influence of Taoism on Japanese culture and his childhood experience.In this part,it illustrates Fukuda' s unique concept of Tao from graphic works and three-dimensional works.Then,through the analysis of series of works such as Two-Legged Screw and Sample,it exposits the innovative ideas of "useless use" embodied in Fukuda' s works,and then elaborates the unique design thoughts of Fukuda's Taoist thinking in Lunch With A Helmet On and Underground Piano from the artistic and aesthetic perspective.With the above works,the author illustrates the value of the design concept of Tao in Fukuda' s works and its profound influence on the field of modern graphic design.With the rapid development of social economic,people's aesthetic level is constantly improving.In such an era,only graphic designers break out the barrier of old environment and concept,can they be more suitable to the new requirements of the society.The author hopes that through this study more graphic designers can acquire inspirations,with which they can promote the essence of traditional ethnic culture when creating great works.
