The thesis is a practice report on the E-C translation of Swiss Research and Innovation Promotion: Instruments and Measures excerpted from the book Research and innovation in Switzerland 2016,which is a publicity material.Its main contents—Swiss innovation promotion agencies,measures and ideas,government policies,and the innovation system formed under its new regional policies—have certain reference significance to China.The translator chose the third chapter of the book as the translation material.In this thesis,according to the language features of the original text and the text function,the translator analyzes the difficulties and problems encountered during the translation process.One is how to translate prepositional phrases,and the other is the translation of polysemic words.Aiming at solving these two problems,the translator adopts translation strategies,including word omission,information restructuring,amplification and meaning extension according to specific contexts.Through analyzing and solving the problems encountered in translation,the translator not only comprehended the translation strategies more profoundly,but also has developed a deeper understanding of English language.In addition,the relevant institutions and policies of Swiss innovation and research in the translation material would also provide a reference for the field of Chinese innovation research.
