With the accelerating pace of globalization,English has become increasingly important than ever before.The primary English teaching in minority areas has achieved a lot since its curriculum was put into practice,but there are still many problems in English teaching and learning.This paper,based on related theories,tries to explore the trilingual teaching of primary school students in Dong areas,and researches on the English learning among them in Tongdao,Hunan province according to multicultural perspective.It aims at enhancing students' English comprehension,stimulating their interests in English learning,improving the quality of English teaching,in the meantime inheriting and developing our national culture.Based on the affective filter hypothesis,multicultural theory and the thresholds theory,the paper has made some research on the effects of Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching on English learning of Dong primary school students,trying to find a solution of the two following questions:1)What effect does Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching have on students' English learning interest in Dong areas?2)What effect does Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching have on students' achievements in English in Dong areas?63 pupils from two classes in the fifth grade of a primary school were recruited as research subjects,one as the Experimental Class and the other as the Control Class.During the one-term experiment,the Experimental Class adopted Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching methods while the Control Class adopted Chinese-English bilingual teaching methods.The data were then collected by means of questionnaires,interview and pre-and post-test,yielding the following research findings:1)Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching can improve students' attitude towards English learning,develop good habits of study,and stimulate their enthusiasm for learning.The results clearly show that Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching can motivate students' English learning interest effectively in Dong areas.2)Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching not only can lead students to a better understanding of target language,but also can improve the efficiency of English teaching and ease students' anxiety.It has remarkable effect on improving students' achievements in English.In conclusion,Dong-Chinese-English trilingual teaching helps to stimulate students' English learning interest and improve students'English achievements.However,the study is limited in the choice of the participants and subject areas owing to the constraints of areas,experimental subjects and time.In order to get more scientific conclusion,we will try to enlarge the number of samples and scopes of research in the following study.
