Objective:In both developed and developing countries, campus violence has increased in frequency and severity. To prevent and control the occurrence of violence, the influencing factors and internal mechanism of the attack are the core issues. In order to maintain fragile high self-esteem,college students with fragile high self-esteem are more defensive, and mainly show aggressiveness.College students with fragile high self-esteem have more attentional bias to aggressive information.Inhibition of return is a strong adaptation mechanism that inhibits the return of attention to the previously noticed position.Based on attentional bias and inhibition of return, this study investigated whether college students with fragile high self-esteem had the difficulty of attention disengagement and attentional capture of offensive information, resulting in a smaller inhibition of return on aggressive information. The study intends to explore how the attention on aggressive information influence inhibition of return,to enrich the theoretical study on attentional bias mechanism of college students with fragile high self-esteem,to provide theoretical basis for cognitive and behavioral correction of college students with fragile high self-esteem.Methods:The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale(SES)was used to screen out 27% of the subjects who entered the next Implicit Association Test.According to Implicit Association Test, subjects were divided into two groups, safe high self-esteem and fragile high self-esteem.Then the two groups entered the cue-target task. The cue-target task uses offensive and neutral words as materials, and subjects were asked to locate in response to the target. In Experiment 1,aggressive or neutral words was presented in cue position. In Experiment 2,aggressive or neutral words were presented at target position. Results:?In Experiment 1 showed that there was significant word attribute effect under the condition of invalid clues, and the average reaction time of offensive wordswas longer than the average reaction time of neutral words in college students with fragile high self-esteem(t=3.59,p < 0.01).The IOR effect for offensive words was numerically smaller in college students with fragile high self-esteem,compared to college students with safe high self-esteem(t=2.06,p < 0.05);The IOR effect for offensive words was numerically smaller than for neutral words in college students with fragile high self-esteem(t=3.58,p < 0.01).? In Experiment 2 showed that there was significant word attribute effect under the condition of valid clues, and the average reaction time of offensive words was shorter than the average reaction time of neutral words(t=-3.95,p < 0.01).The IOR effect for offensive words was numerically smaller than for neutral words(t=3.48,p<0.01).Conclusion:?The fragile high self-esteem group exhibited a smaller inhibition of return when the offensive word was the cue,due to the slower disengagement from offensive stimuli. But in secure high self-esteem group,.no effect of valence was obsered when the offensive stimuli was the cue.?A smaller inhibition of return was observed for offensive stimuli, with similar results being observed for both groups,as the ability of offensive stimuli to capture attention could cancel out the cost of attention being capaured again at the cue location.
