A Report On C-E Translation Of Technical Bidding Document For Rails Engineering Project

Along with the enhancement of China’s comprehensive power,more and more enterprises pay greater attention to the international market.As a result,an increasing number of Chinese enterprises participate in international bidding,which is the demonstration of the huge influence of Chinese enterprises in the world.It is an international common practice that bidding document must be prepared in English.In case it is permitted to prepare the documents in a second language,it is a must to have an English version for filing and the English version shall prevail if there is any dispute or misunderstanding.Therefore,the accuracy of bidding translation is the key factor for bidding process.However,as for the present translation work on bidding document for railway engineering project,its quality can not meet the expectation of people,even with some problems of logical connectives,inaccuracy of terms translation,and so on and so forth.The author takes the translation project--C-E Translation of Technical Bidding Document for Rails Engineering as the case study to analyze the difficulties encountered in the translation process from words,sentences and discourse level;then solutions are concluded including diction,conversion,amplification and rearrangement on the basis of Functional Equivalence Theory.This translation report consists of four chapters: Chapter One introduces project background,client’s requirements and the analysis of source text.Chapter Two illustrates translation process,including preparation for the project,theoretical preparation,translation stage and quality control.Chapter Three focuses on the analysis of difficulties of words,sentence and discourse that the author encountered in the translation.Meanwhile,the author of this report also lists some practical solutions used in the translation with examples.Chapter Four is about the feedback from clients,self-reflection about the translation process and suggestions for the future work.On the basis of the C-E translation of technical bidding document for railway engineering project,the author sums up the problems and solutions in her translation experience and puts forward some useful suggestions to translators who are in charge of the translation on railway engineering project.The author hopes that the translation report can further improve her translation work,which is also meaningful for guiding translators in their future translation work.
