Anxiety is a very common mental disorder which may impair patients' quality of life and social functions.Family is one's major living area and the basic function of family is providing family members with certain contexts to assure one's healthy development physiologically, psychologically and socially.Dysfunction of family may induce one's anxiety disorder.Sense of coherence has influence on one's perception and control of his or her environment, developing with one's daily experiences and tending to be pervasive, continued and dynamic.Factors of family level may affect individuals through factors of individuals' level,so this study hypothesizes that sense of coherence may have mediation effect between family functioning and anxiety. This study uses FAD,SOC-13 and SAS to access 40 unmarried college students with anxiety disorder(anxiety group)and 40 unmarried healthy college students(contrast group),getting following results:(1)Anxiety group gets significant higher scores in FAD total scores and general functioning, problem solving, communication, behavior control and affective responsiveness sub-scales scores than contrast group, whereas gets lower scores in SOC total scores and comprehensiveness, control and meaningfulness sub-scales scores.(2)The FAD total scores significantly and positively correlate with SAS total scores but significantly and negatively correlate with SOC total scores and three sub-scales scores both in anxiety group and contrast group. The five sub-scales—general fnctioning, problem solving, communication, behavior control and affective responsiveness of the FAD significantly and positively correlate with SAS total scores, besides the affective responsiveness sub-scale scores only significantly and negatively correlate with SOC total scores and comprehensiveness and meaningfulness sub-scales scores, the four sub-scales—general functioning, problem solving, communication and behavior control of the FAD significantly and negatively correlate with SOC total and three sub-scales scores both in anxiety group and contrast group.SOC total scores and three sub-scales scores significantly and negatively correlate with SAS total scores both in anxiety group and contrast group.(3)Sense of coherence totally mediates family functioning as well as general functioning, problem solving, communication, behavior control, affective responsiveness dimensions and anxiety.(4)There is a chained and total mediation between family functioning as well as general functioning, problem solving, communication, behavior control dimensions and anxiety when the three dimensions of SOC—meaningfulness, comprehensiveness and control step by step gets in to the mediation model.
