| The source text of this translation project is four academic papers chosen from International Encyclopedia of Education,which is edited by Penelope Peterson,Eva Baker and Barry Mc Gaw.These four academic papers discuss the application of classroom assessments in France,Hong Kong,New Zealand and Sub-Saharan Africa.In accordance with Newmark's text typology,these academic papers belong to typical informative text.Besides,Newmark points out that the translation goal of informative text is to make target readers have the same reaction as the readers of source text when they read the version.In order to achieve this goal,he points out that when translating such informative texts,communicative translation theory should be used as guidance theory.Therefore,the translator adopts the communicative translation theory as the theoretical basis of the whole translation project.This translation report,combined with specific case studies,focuses on how to use various translation methods at lexical,syntactical and contextual level based on the communicative translation theory.The translator uses the translation methods of conversion,negation and affirmation,as well as omission and amplification at the lexical level;the translation methods of sequential,reverse and splitting at the syntactical level;the principle of cohesion and coherence at the contextual level.By using these translation methods under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the translator strives to make the version smooth and clear for target readers.Through this translation report,it can be concluded that the translator should choose the proper translation theory for different text type before translation.Besides,in view of the information text of this translation report,the translator should use thecommunicative translation theory as the guide theory to get the best version in line with the expression code of target language. |
