This is a report on the translation,and the source texts are four essays of volume three from International Encyclopedia of Education(3rd edition).It collects a large number of new research achievements of scholars and experts in the domain of education all over the world,which greatly facilitates the development of education.With these four essays mainly depicting about educational experiment designs and knowledge of educational statistics,which are in line with the marked textual features,so the text-oriented translation theory by Newmark is selected as the guidance to consummate this translation project.There are another two important reasons to adopt this theory: first of all,this theory is put forward by Peter Newmark,who was an authority in translation,and this theory is more reasonable and comprehensive than that of the traditional perspective of translation research in 1960 s,it is more feasible,reasonable and comprehensive;secondly,the characters of the source texts are completely corresponding to those of the informative functional text,consequently,it is no doubt that this theory can be fit for this translation project.For translating,the research objects of the text-oriented translation theory are English,French and German,while the objects of this translation project are English and Chinese.As a result,in order to the equivalent-effect translation the translator employs various translation skills,which is performed in accordance with the basic differences between Chinese and English and translation theory of Newmark.This translation report can be divided in to five parts.The first part is about an introduction,which includes the background of the translation project,contents and features of the source texts,and the significance of this project.In the second part,it describes the complete translation process,which contains more details of the translation preparation,what challenges there are in the translation and how to deal with them,and the revision after translating.The third part projects the profile of Newmark and his translation theory,and the primary distinctions between Chinese and English,which is also the foundation for selecting the correct translation skills.The fourth part demonstrates how to apply the translation skills such as amplification,omission,division and so on to address English-Chinese translation.The last part makes a conclusion of experiences and lessons from this translation project and an assessment for it.
