This is a report on the Chinese translation of International Encyclopedia of Education(3rd edition)whose editors-in-chief are Penelope Peterson,Eva Baker and Barry Mc Gaw.The author translated four articles belonging to the third volume, namely Impact of Assessment on Learner Groups(Boys/Girls),Impact of Assessment on Learner Groups(Disabilities),Impact of Assessment on Students' Test Anxiety and Impact of Assessments on Classroom Practice.Newmark,a British translation theorist, proposed six functions of texts, namely, expressive, informative, vocative, aesthetic, phatic and metalingual functions. The translation material has the informative function. With regard to the informative text,Newmark put forward that it is suitable for a translator to carry out translation under the guidance of the communicative translation.Accordingly, the author abides by the communicative translation, and then presents a version that is relatively smooth and concise for the target readers by means of amplification, omission, combination, division, voice conversion and the like. The author hopes that this translation report will contribute to the translation of works on education to a certain extent.
