The source language text of this translation report is the four English academic papers about the formative assessment of pedagogy,selected from the International Encyclopedia of Education,which mainly studies the related experimental processes in the field of formative assessment and analyzes the related research results.Therefore,the source language text takes on the nature of strong technicality.The translation of educational academic papers can not only help the translator to improve her translation ability and deepens the understanding of the relevant knowledge of pedagogy,but also can provide some references for educational scholars in a sense.The German translation theorist,Katharina Reiss,divides language texts into three types: informative text,expressive text,and operative text.Informative texts aim at delivering contents and representing information,knowledge,and facts.According to Reiss' s classification of the text typology,this source text of the translation report belongs to the type of informative text,emphasizing the information delivery,especially its accuracy,logic and readability.In the translation process,the translation of some words and the long sentences is the key and difficult point.In order to solve these difficulties and express the information more accurately,this translation report,guided by Reiss' s text typology translation theory,follows the principle of faithfulness,equivalence and readability by adopting the strategy of domesticating translation and the mode of “translating by following the meanings”.The translator uses the translation techniques of diction,division,conversion,negationand inversionin accordance with the lexical and syntactic differences between English and Chinese to solve the difficulties in the translation process and strive to improve the accuracy,logic and readability of the target text.
