The C-E translation of academic papers is a big problem to most of the non-English majors, and it is true of their writing of English papers.Reasons why this problem appears are multifaceted. Some of the reasons may be that not all Chinese writers of academic papers are proficient in English, and the writing of academic papers is too professional, and Chinese and English differ from each other in logic.Chinese academic papers in geophysics are highly technical and have unique linguistic features. In the process of translation, translators would encounter problems in terms of terminology, diction, collocation, logic and so on.As to the project management, there would also be difficulties including translating mode, quality control and time control.Translation of academic papers in geophysics is taken as an example in this thesis.Emphasis is placed on how to improve the translating quality and efficiency of geophysical academic papers. The use of the translation methods is discussed and examples are given in this thesis. The structure of this thesis is as follows:the first chapter is an introduction to the whole task about its background, time schedule and translating process;the second chapter is a description of the detailed process of translation including text analysis according to Peter Newmark's text typology, use of CAT tool MemoQ and project management;details on the difficulties and solutions concerning diction and collocation, translation of highlights, choice of tenses and so on are discussed in the third chapter, which is the core and major content of this paper;the last chapter is about the feedbacks&reflections from the paper writers, group leaders and editors;this thesis concludes with a discussion of some practical suggestions and recommendations as references for future translators and writers.
