As China's soft power grows, there are increasing academic exchanges between China and other countries. It is a truth that the academic papers are one of the most important carriers and methods of academic exchanges. As a result, academic translation is essential for academic development and exchanges. This paper is a report on the English-Chinese translation of academic papers about education. The source text of the report is three English papers about educational assessment and evaluation. They are selected from Chapters 8-10 in International Encyclopedia of Education,a collection of academic papers about education. In accordance with Katharina Reiss' s Text Typology Theory, the source text is identified as information-based one which focuses on conveying information and contents of the source text.Based upon Text Typology, this report analyzes the features of the source text at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels. In combination of these features, the author sets specific examples at lexical, sentence and discourse levels. And then this report analyzes translation methods and techniques of these difficult points so as to accurately and clearly transmit information and contents of the source text. This report provides certain reference for other counterparts who may translate the information-type materials. In accordance with the analysis from the perspectives of words, sentences and discourse,it is found that: 1)at lexical level, nominalized words and terminologies are widely employed in these three papers;2)at sentence level, passive voice frequently appear in the sentences and there are substantial long and complex sentences;and 3)at discourse level, there are two methods of cohesion and coherence, namely grammatical and lexical cohesion.Through this report, the author concludes that translators should first analyze the features of the source text from to make clear the type of the text before translation, and then select specific translation methods and techniques in accordance with its type, and finally use native and fluent target language to transmit information or contents of the source text as possibly as they can.
