With the deepening of reform and opening up,the general public have become more and more eager to learn scientific knowledge.In our daily life,except for direct experience from practice,there is indirect experience from books and Internet,which is the crystallization of the former and contemporary people's intelligence Therefore,the scientific-technological text has played an essential role in the popularization of scientific knowledge.This translation task is about a scientific-technological textbook,Ray's Practical Arithmetic by Joseph RayIn this practice,the author is responsible for chapter 1 to chapter 9 in the book,which amounts to about 30,000 words.She pushes forward translating with the help of the Relevance Translation Theory and Trados software,and forward this report by the methods of case analysis,contrast and inductionIn this report,the author talks about the text feature.Its scientificity,popularity,and common use of number and mathematical expression demonstrate that,aiming at such a text,translators should pay attention to the logic and preciseness of translation text,explain the abstract ideas with obvious and understandable words,as well as try to make sure the accuracy and authority of those mathematical terms' translation.In addition,during this practice,the author has tried to translate with Trados software for the first time.Especially after having acquainted with its operation,the author is able to translate much faster by using Term Bank and Translation Memory.But there still exists some problems(such as,garbled in translation,some local special terms and unit names cannot be recognized by Trados.which needs emendation),which have been summarized by the author.At last,this practice is based on the Relevance Translation Theory,which pointed out writer's intention would better match the reader's expectation with an effort of translators.Therefore,considering there are many pupils among readers,the author has been trying to make the translation alive and understandable.Through the review and summary of the entire translation,on the one hand,the author explores the feature and translating strategy of scientific-technological textbook as well as the terminologies and unit names in the field of primary-school mathematics,which is helpful to obtain some translation information and professional terms in this domain.On the other hand,the author talks about the guiding function of the Relevance Translation Theory on scientific-technological text,and the method of how to translate this kind of text by Trados software,so as to provide some experience for other translators.At the same time,this practice report shows the author's effort in promoting the career of the Chinese scientific-technological and cultural exchanges with the world.
