With the rapid development of economy,communications among countries become more frequent.Therefore,under the trend of cultural exchanges,translator plays an important role,and researches on translation are gradually deepened.Nowadays,translation subjects have also been diversified in the study of translation theories.And the translation of historical texts has been discussed by many scholars.The functional equivalence theory proposed by Nida indicates the natural equivalence between the source language and the target language which could guide the translation of historical texts effectively.Analysis and summary are made through the specific translation practice.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the method of case analysis is used to analyze the translation from the aspects of lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level.By researching the cases,this paper means to discuss the instructiveness of the functional equivalence for long English sentences in translating historical texts.The different strategies and skills are adopted in the process of translation,such as amplification,omission,the change of word order and division.Rise to Globalism:American Foreign Policy Since 1938 is used as the original text to translate.This book narrates the related history of America with rich content.Translating this kind of material aims to help people to know more history,which has the practical meanings.In the process of translation,the translator handles relevant information appropriately and uses translation strategies flexibly.The equivalence between two languages can be effectively achieved to make readers understand the original text.The translator puts the knowledge learned into practice,concludes the problems to improve the translation level.Finally,the translator hopes to not only improve her own translation level,but also to provide a useful reference for other translators.
