This is an English-Chinese translation report on excerpts of the first chapter of Tourism in the City,which is a symposium which co-edited by Nicola Bellini and Cecilia Pasquinelli and published on September 6th,2016;furthermore,there isn‘t yet any Chinese version of it.It is a popular science book telling about urban tourism development in details from different perspectives.This report aims to state and solve difficulties that the reporter encounters in the process of translation.It analyzes the source text and related background information and displays key and difficult points during translation.It is necessary for the translator to get the translation of terminologies,titles and sentences correctly;however,it is difficult to make their translation idiomatic in the target language.In addition,translation tools are indispensable,such as dictionary,encyclopedic knowledge of tourism and parallel texts.It is a challenge to deal with tourism text which features related terminologies,formal style and even long and difficult sentences.The reporter primarily focuses on titles,words and sentences translation.When it comes to the translation of titles,the translator uses Chinese idioms and four-Chinese-character words to vividly express titles of the source text,intending to make clear and concise Chinese title to arouse target readers‘interest.Then,the translator utilizes parallel text to get concise meaning of the proper nouns with the methods of transliteration,literal translation and free translation.Most importantly,various strategies,including dividing sense groups,restructuring sentence orders and turning passive voice into active voice are used in the translation of sentences.Of course,understanding logic of the sentences completely is essential part in translation,given that,the translator restructures sentences to get Chinese version accepted by target readers naturally and smoothly.To conclude,pre-translation preparations are the cornerstone of a qualified report.Then,the translator has to understand the meaning of the original text totally in order to translate the text well and pass on the main idea of the authors correctly.The translator should possess ability which is making transformation between English and Chinese language agilely with high quality,and master a broad knowledge of related aspects as much as possible.Lastly,rereading and proofreading are essential part to make the report and the target text better.
