| The material of the translation report is excerpt of the seventh chapter of Law in American History,Volume II: From Reconstruction Through the 1920s(hereinafter referred to as Law in American History,Volume II).This is a non-literature book for average readers and gives a brief history of the development of various branch laws in American.The seventh chapter mainly discusses about the emergence and development of a low of torts.The translation of passive voice is one of the major obstacles encountered by most of translators.While translating this material,I found that passive voice was frequently used in the source texts.Using passive voice can make the description more objective by way of highlighting the patient of an action and emphasizing the passive meaning.This means that the usage of the passive voice makes the text more accurate and objective.Therefore,this report explores two translation conditions of passive voice in English-Chinese legal translation,including translating into passive sentences and translating into active sentences.In addition,translating into passive sentences and active sentences can be further subdivided into passive voice with the agent and without the agent respectively.This report begins with a brief introduction to the original text,an appropriate analysis of the original text,and a brief introduction to the translation process and the translation report.Secondly,it gives a brief overview of the passive voice,including the definition,classification and a brief analysis and comparison of differences between English passive voice and Chinese passive voice.Then it is the case analysis of some typical expression examples.This part of the report focuses on how and why I choose some translation methods to translate these expressions,and summarizes the translation process.The purpose of this report is to record my translation experience,hoping to provide some references for other people's translation work. |
