This paper, based on the translation of Chapter 6 of America's New Democracy,is a translation report.According to Newmark's text type theory, the book is an informative text which aims to provide accurate and complete information and to reproduce the original content accurately and completely in the process of translation. In informative texts,English passive sentences are often used to express the objective and formal features of the text, while in Chinese, passive meanings are usually expressed in active forms and objective ones are expressed in unowned sentences.English passive sentences are the focuses of this translation practice, which requires translator to compare the differences between English and Chinese passive sentences carefully and adopt appropriate translation methods and techniques flexibly. The translation project includes four parts. The first part is the introduction of the whole project, which introduces the background, objectives and the significance of this project. The second part is the analysis of the source text from two aspects of text type and language features, and puts forward the difficulties encountered in the translation process: the translation of English passive sentences. The third part is the discussion of translation strategies of English passive sentences through analyzing specific translation examples. The last part is the summary of the translation experience, lessons and problems still to be solved.
