In recent years, with the deepening of exchanges between China and foreign countries, the demand for simultaneous interpretation in foreign affairs has increased rapidly.Apart from providing simultaneous interpretation courses by universities and social institutions,National and regional simultaneous interpretation competitions have emerged which attract a wide range of interpreters to participate in.This practice report, based on the theory of Gile's cognitive load model and correlated scholar's theories and viewpoints of omission, employs the practice of the author's participation in The First Hunan provincial Simultaneous Interpretation Contest as the material. It firstly introduces the background and characteristics of the interpreting task and the theory of omission, then describes preparations for the contest, and thoroughly analyzes the author's contest audio record.A detailed analysis of the real interpreting practice at the competition was conducted from omission, and after summarizing the commonalities and differences of the omission cases, the author divides intentional omission into "synonym and redundancy" omission,"filler"omission,"known information" omission,"modifier" omission and "expository information" omission, and divides unintentional omission into "overloaded memory"omission,"insufficient knowledge information","mental anxiety" omission and"environmental liability" omission then discussing cases of them in detail. This report concludes with analyses and summaries which expound the experience of practice, and proposes deficiencies as well as attainments for the entire interpreting process.Through analyzing omission cases, this report has tentatively discussed criteria for judging the acceptability of omission in SI and training method of omission in SI.The author thinks omission is the strategy of sacrificing the secondary information in favour of the transmission of core information;serious information loss and deviation from original meaning should be regarded as unacceptable omission in SI output. The author hopes to use this practice report to provide reference for future interpreters.
