This thesis mainly analyzes the application of the omission strategy in the Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation based on the Economy Principle. The Economy Principle is also known as the least effort principle, which is using the minimum words to express intact and accurate information for achieving the purpose of saving time. Due to the discrepancy which exists between Chinese English languages in terms of form and structure, interpreters have to make changes in the process of simultaneous interpretation. Beyond all questions, some information needs to be omitted during the process of interpreting original language to target language. There are many types of omission including omission of verbs, omission of category words, omission of modifiers, omission of overlapping words and so on. This thesis elaborates the cause of omission phenomenon and gives certain measures by analyzing speeches of Mr. Xi Jinping since his taking office. By doing this, the author sincerely hope to help interpreters in simultaneous interpretation to achieve the purpose of interpreting succinctly and fleetly.
