Study On Omission Reason In English-Chinese Simultaneous Interpretation

Omission is a very common phenomenon in simultaneous interpretation. Thescholars mostly discuss the definition of the ellipsis and whether it should be omittedor not in the process of interpreting, however, we lack of studies about the reason.This paper will use the audio file to analyze the omitted examples in order to exploreits causes in the process of interpretation. The causes caused omissions which wereanalyzed by the author through audio file in simultaneous interpretation were sevenmajor reasons:1.Incorrect output;2. limited short-term memory;3.neglect oflistening;4.misunderstanding5.unbalanced energy distribution;6. limited processingability;7. Initiative omission. Meanwhile, In each case of omitted examples wereworked out. And then we concluded that misunderstanding was the most difficultcause which resulted in omission in simultaneous interpreting. At last the author putforward that the interpreter should distinguish between primary and secondary hardin training and learning of simultaneous interpretation in the future, and to deal withreasonably tasks of requirements in simultaneous interpretation, strive to improve thequality of translation.
