Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Zhuang Brocade

This project report is based on Zhuang Brocade,one of the international publicity translation projects of intangible cultural heritage of Guangxi.As a national intangible cultural heritage,Zhuang brocade is an artistic handicraft created by Zhuang people and rich in traditional craftsmanship and cultural characteristics.It has high practical value and profound cultural meanings.The translation of Zhuang Brocade helps to introduce it to the world,strengthen the continuation and innovation of national culture,and promote cross-cultural exchanges and the export of cultural products and services.Zhuang Brocade contains rich contents,including the history,origin,prosperity,weaving process,techniques,patterns and continuation,etc.It also contains many cultural features of ethnic minorities;especially the craftsmanship of Zhuang brocade and its patterns,which broaden the author's horizons.However,due to unique geographical conditions,history and culture,life style and customs,Zhuang brocade cannot be universal,and there are no equivalent expressions in English for culture-loaded words.The craftsmanship and weaving process of Zhuang brocade are even more difficult to spread,so the cultural information also cannot be conveyed.Therefore,under the guidance of cultural translation theory,the author adopts corresponding translation methods after the analysis and understanding of the source text,such as transliteration with notes,literal translation with notes and free translation,aiming to maintain the cultural information to the largest extent.Besides,the methods of amplification,rearrangement and division are adopted to translate the long and complex sentences,especially the sentences about the craftsmanship and weaving process of Zhuang brocade,aiming to provide the readers clear and straightforward information that they need.Moreover,the conclusion includes gains and deficiencies in the translation process.And the author hopes that this report can provide a little valuable reference for translation project of the similar type.
