C-E Translation Of Chinese Culture-loaded Words From The Perspective Of Cultural Translation Theory

Recently,with the promotion of going-global strategy in Chinese culture,the translation of political documents has become more significant than before in transmitting China's unique culture.How to make the translation close to target readers and accepted by them is a research topic which cannot be neglected in cultural translation studies due to the existence of cross language and cross culture in translation.It is generally accepted that Chinese Culture-loaded Words,as a major part of Chinese culture,contains abundant cultural connotation.Xi Jinping: The Governance of China II,as a window for the world to acquire information of China's latest condition,the successful publication of its English version is evidently related to the translation of massive Chinese Culture-loaded Words which implies rich cultural connotation.In order to comprehend the cultural transmission for translators in the process of translation better,with the guidance of Susan Bassnett's Cultural Translation Theory,the present study takes the English version of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China II as research data and explores the way of achieving functional equivalent translation between source language and target language in the aspect of cultural connotation in various Chinese Culture-loaded Words.Meanwhile,the appropriate translation principles and methods are summed up specifically.Through detailed text analysis,the author finds that the C-E translation of Chinese Culture-loaded Words in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China II mainly tends to take retention of culture or appropriate replacement of culture as translation principles.Literal translation,literal translation plus explanation and free translation are available to achieve cultural functional equivalence in the course of translating words of Chinese politics,economy and new concepts;while free translation and cultural substitution are effective to achieve cultural functional equivalence in the process of translating words of Chinese ancient prose,allusions and idioms.Furthermore,the thesis provides certain reference for the translators in the translation of non-literary texts in which Chinese Culture-loaded Words are involved.
