Throughout thousands of years translation history, the debate between literal translation and free translation has always been the focus of translation studies.Since the 21 st century,Germany functional school of translation studies, represented by Reiss, provides a new perspective for translation study. The Skopos Theory of the functional school of translation broke through the bondage of the incompatible of literal translation and free translation, released the bondage that the source text imposed to the translator, and promoted the significance of the translator. The Skopos Theory, based on behavioral theory and the theory of intercultural communication, has broken the limitations of the previous equivalence translation and text-centered research paradigm.More attentions are paid to the translation itself and the social efficiency of translation, which fully highlights the main role of the translator, pointing out a new research direction for translation studies.Getting rid of the linguistic confines such as language equivalence and conversion,Skopos Theory analyzes translation issues from the perspective of function and communication.Translation is placed in a more macro framework of behavior theory and cross-cultural communication to be analyzed, which gives the translator great flexibility.Translation purpose being the first principle,Skopos Theory makes a comprehensive consideration into not only the original author, translator but also target readers.According to the specific purpose and reader's various demands, different translation strategies should be adopted free from the original source text.It points out that translation is a purposeful behavior,so the translator should adopt the translation strategies and methods according to the expectations of the translation purpose. In order to achieve the intended purpose of translation, flexible translation strategies can be chosen in the actual translation behavior.Translation purpose determines its translation action,so the choice of translation strategies should be matching its specific translation purpose.Translation is not just a language transformation activity, but also a cross-cultural communication process involved in the spread and exchange of culture.Adopting the method of qualitative analysis, the thesis, putting two versions of translation of “Handstand” as analysis materials and research subjects, one being the translation version without the guidance of the specific theory, the other being the translation version under the guidance of the Skopos Theory, aims to explore some properer translation strategies through the comparison and analysis of the two different translation versions.Through the comparative analysis of two different translations, this article explores some translation strategies, such as literal translation, free translation, amplification, omission, edited translation and explanatory translation, with an expectation of providing a reference for the spread of Chinese culture. These translation strategies are of great significance for cultural translation, which is also conducive to intercultural communication under the initiative of the Belt and Road.
